It had been a stupid decision in retrospect, to remove the Arc Reactor.  However Greg had found out about Loki and Loki had found out about Tony… luckily Tony was yet to give a damn.  Roo was a cheater yes, and she deserved all the anger that Greg threw at her, all the yelling, and the heartache and hell, probably that slap too.  She also deserved the telling off Loki gave her, Tony didn't deserve the black eye and bruised ribs Loki gave him but luckily for her the God of Mischief is also somewhat of a gentleman.  However in the moment when Roo was alone, and even her father had condemned her, she removed her heart, the mechanical one and let her real one break as it had during this whole fiasco.  Loki had no idea, and Roo did well to hide the fact that soon her heart would stop.  Even as Loki took her hand and transported her away she hid the biting of her lip and the buckling of her body.  Loki did notice however when Roo collapsed to the ground bleeding against the grass of a large orb covered city.
"Runeheart!"
Loki called out, aware that Roo was no-longer next to him as he strode powerfully towards the large city.  When Loki turned and saw Roo on the floor, coughing up blood his expression changed and he moved to her side.
"Stand."
He spoke softly, trying not to betray his persona, the prince of Asgard and a Jotunn could not be seen as worrying for the life of a single Midgardian, especially not the fallen prince, Loki himself.   Roo stood shakily, leaning on Loki for support and feeling his cold metal armour against her arm, holding her.
"where are we?"
She whispered slowly, licking at the blood that poured from her mouth.  She was dying in slow motion now, feeling as the bullet inched closer towards her heart.  Loki cleared his throat.
"Asgard.  The healers here can save you."
He spoke harshly as he took her hand and slowly led her forward.  Roo coughed slightly sending more dark red blood onto the green grass.
"Asgard?"
She asked, confused, buckling in pain before straightening herself quickly, following Loki's guiding hand as he softly stroked hers with his thumb.
"Yes, my home planet.. or as close to home as it can get.  Come."
He gave her arm a solid tug, stopping in front of a white building covered in deep red roses.  Roo had paled and her speech slurred slightly.
"Hey hotshot… hun… I don't have a working heart… and for humans... that means we ain't… as sprightly as normal… and what is this?  Some sort of… hospital?"
Loki stopped in front of the entrance, tightening his grip on Roo's arm and concentrating on feeling her ever slowing pulse.  He began to grow irritated with her questions.
"Yes, no, well you can call it that though it is nothing of the sort.  My healer can save you.  That's why we are here."
Roo's eyes began to haze as Loki held her tighter, around her waist and holding her up so she didn't fall.
"Why save me?  Why not get an Asgardian to be with you…"
Loki smiled for a moment, int hat moment Roo saw something she hadn't before… honesty.
"Because they suck.  And you're better."
He laughed before seeing Roo's eyes roll up into the back of her head.  Her skin went deathly pale and her chest was hardly moving, Loki held her close to his chest, ignoring the blood that now stained his armour and sweeping some hair from her face.
"Runeheart, whats wrong?"
Roo's eyes focussed for a mere moment as she let out a shaky breath.
"Bullet…. Heart… slowing…"
Loki lifted her with ease, Roo's small frame making her look almost childlike next to Loki who growled in anger before touching her face tenderly.
"I know, that's why we are here… We will fix you.  I promise…"
Roo breathed out heavily then remained still; a small glow appeared around her as Loki entered the building muttering an incarnation, trying desperately to keep her alive until the healer could see her.

"Mythril? MYTHRIL! Where are you!"
Loki screamed, nearly dropping Roo as a lean Asgardian moved out of the shadows, confused to see Loki.
"Loki, you've returned… what is it you require?"
Loki looked up with bright eyes wet with almost tears indicating to the girl in his arms.  Mythril frowned shaking his head.
"I can't, she's a Midgard… I don't have the ability to heal a Midgardian heart…"
Loki narrowed his eyes, laying Roo softly on a nearby chair and walking forward as his sceptre materialized aimed at Mythril's heart.
"Then give her an Asgardian heart or I swear upon Odin that I will give her yours… and you shall know the pains of Hel sooner than you may have expected."
Mythril bowed and took Roo's limp body towards a small room as Loki stood in the entrance area sitting and placing his hands in a steeple underneath his chin, muttering yet more incantations.

***
Painful hours passed with Loki's focus not breaking once muttering constantly, appealing to the gods for protection, not sure as to why they would protect a Midgardian but praying they would.  When Mythril finally emerged, Loki immediately rushed forward and grabbed him by his collar, eyeing him.
"She's alive.  But she is now to be half Asgardian, Half Midgardian.  There has never been a child of Midgard who has become like us.  Be warned Loki."
Loki let Mythril go before rushing to Roo's side to see her pale and breathing softly.  As Loki enetered the room Roo stirred softly.
"Lo-ki…."
She murmured, Loki rushing to her side and taking ahold of her hand and kissing it softly, hoping it wouldn't chill her too much.
"Yes my love?"
He spoke, sounding slightly unsure.  Roo's eyes opened.
"Is that… you… or a… clone…"
Loki laughed.
"So mistrusting… It's me, of course it's me…"
He held her hand to his face and shuddered as he breathed out.  For a while he had feared he would never see colour return to her ivory skin.  Ro went to speak, to ask what had happened but Loki silenced her.
"they replaced your heart… with an Asgradian one, your human blood should adjust soon…"
Roo looked slightly paniced.
"My heart?  They what?"
Loki rolled his eyes.
"they took your broken heart and replaced it with an Asgard one.  You are now half Midgard, half Asgard.  The human blood within you should coagulate soon and merge with the Asgardian blood.  Your lifespan is increased to that of mine… you are the first midgardian demi god."
Roo felt her mind cloud.
"It hurts…"
Loki shh'ed her compassionately.
"The pain shall cease soon, for now, rest… my queen."

Roo felt herself slip back into the darkness that felt so welcoming to her.  Loki watched her fall asleep once more and for the first time pressed his lips softly to hers.  There was no control required, no demands to be met, no need to be satisfied… simply Loki, becoming slightly more human and kissing his sleeping princess.  He was disturbed by the somewhat booming voice that sounded behind him, the voice attempted to be quiet but failed.
"How is she brother?"
Loki sighed, still rubbing his thumb along her hand.
"she will mend, the procedure worked."
Loki half smiled, Thor had noticed.
"Do you love the mortal?  Brother?"
"Yes."
Loki replied softly without hesitation.  Thor smiled, sitting next to his brother and placing a hand on his back.  Loki stared at it with contempt.
"Congratulations my brother.  When an Asgardian loves, it is for their lifetime.  I'm glad it has come to you in the form of this Midgardian."
Loki growled lowly, removing Thor's hand from his back.
"My queen is safe but do not for one moment think I have forgiven you brother.  Do not think yourself as akin to me, for your time is soon coming where I shall ascend to the throne of Asgard… where i…"
He looked to Roo who shifted in pain.
"and my dear queen belong."
A lovely fic where Roo becomes more Asgardian and Loki becomes more Human...

yes the title is obviously a play on 'I'll make a man out of you'...
